Not really a budget build, but it sounded good.. x'D A new friend has offered up his old rig (in another thread, in the hotlapping forum) and I wanted a separate thread to discuss it in.. Thanks again @DKgorace for the very generous donation to my sim racing addiction! :firstimekiss: So, here's how it went down, Stunod style!! ;):fist

Original hot lapper thread: http://stunodracing.net/index.php?t...apping-drivers-choice.4524/page-20#post-72093

It's a chore, I'll tell ya that.. Been working on it off and on for about a week. Started in the :11's and worked it down to a :6.89 or something, but wasn't recording. Tried for a half hour tonight to get back into the 6's and couldn't do it. The fastest guys on the net, like PaulaD are just insane on how deep they can get into the corners and not lock the brakes or spin the car. Don't know how they do it. I run "factory" ABS and Traction and basically the stock setup with the PSI bumped up to 16lbs. Im sure they use tricked up setups but I can't see that gaining 3 seconds. Something to do with braking, imo.. And practice.. Lots of practice. lol
Quality load cel pedals, and set up. I got a lot faster with practice, but nothing prepared me for load cel brakes. With in a week of practice I was killing the guys I use to race with.......(they weren't as happy as I on my new purchase)........ The only problem with that is mine are $200 and change, decent ones are $300-500. Nice pedals are $1k now a days. But it's not you Mitch, I can tell you that. You are very fast and seems to me, peaking at the ability of the T-150. And of course these top guys are in major quality rigs......Some guys I recently use to race.....(ACC)... are in these $5k to $10k rigs and I could never figure out how I got smoked everytime. I'm not saying you need to upgrade to get faster ...(kinda takes the fun out of it).....but I had a similar thing in photography. I stepped up to the pro level camera equipment and everything came together easily than before. Less editing, better overall photos by a huge margin, able to shoot racing and turn around the next day and do landscape.etc.. I will be working on V3 Fanatec pedals next year, and if you want I'll have these ones now set aside for you. Just sayin.
Yea, equipment certainly makes a difference! I need to get another cockpit so my arse doesn't go numb.. lol Office chair up against a desk kinda kills the immersion. Bummer I've had 2 cockpits over the years and threw em' both in the trash when I stopped sim racing.. :|: But I'll probably upgrade the PC before I do the wheel/pedals though, unless they go belly up or something.. May look into some home brew upgrades for them.. Oh and who's Mitch? x'D Im Mick and Im a simracing addict.. :)
Holy crap I did type Mitch.................haha........... I must have been having old roommate flashbacks from 20 years ago.......(miss that guy, best roommate I ever had)... Good idea on the computer first. I milked mine as far as I could, Mick. Now I don't even bother trying to overclock mine now with the CPU water cooled I get 4.6 Ghz all day with the mobo and Intel software doing it for me. 90 to 160 fps in rF2 in 4k, AC a bit less and ACC straight 60 fps.
My potato runs pretty well for what it is.. i4 2500 GTX1050ti. lol
Mick if you pay for shipping I'll give you my i7 4770s with mobo and 24g of ddr3 ram.
Can I have one too?
I could be like Oprah........"YOU GET AN i7...........AND YOU GET AN i7......EVERYBODY GETS AN i7!!!"
I already have an i7 but only 4790k a new motherboard is what I need.
Oh hell 4790k is a nice 4ghz work horse.I have a couple MOBOs but not nice enough to be getting the most out of that CPU. I could check my friend in California. He use to buld crazy shit back in the 1150 socket days.
Dang, that's very generous of you Dave!! Tell me how much shipping is and I'll paypal it to ya! You can have my i4 if you want it Johnny? I don't know much about PC's these days.. I built a rig for NR2003 back in like 08'.. Was the last time I messed with it. I bought my (current) whole rig, less video card, off ebay, which was a Dell Optiplex 790 which they said could be turned into a decent budget gaming rig..
I'll PM you on Facebook to keep it privite from here. I.E. need ur address and such
I still use Socket 1150.
I know the 4k series is 1150 socket nothing wrong with that. it's what I was running before I built this rig.
@M_Nesevitch It's all about the air flow from here. My old rig that I sent you was a pre-built mini desktop but with then GTX 970- GPU it was getting pretty damn hot. And yes I drilled the shit out of my little case before my gaming tower...Hahahaha
dave_rig.jpg
Im not sure that thing would fit under my desk! x'D So it'll fit in a mini tower but you don't recommend that, if Im hearing what your saying.. I was thinking a nice ATX "mid" tower with a "few" fans. A 600W psu and maybe a CM 212 EVO cooler?? (Recommendations welcome!!)

*Sorry @Highbank @garrett1127 .. Were in the wrong thread again, talking computer specs.. :confounded: Any way we can cut/paste these last handful of posts (#387-current) over to the Computer Specs thread??

Sorry for any confusion. I sent you the MOBO which is ATX the mini atx (original mobo for the i7) was total crap, which is the old case. You are getting an ATX MOBO, i7 CPU ,and 24GBs ram ,all in one package. I just wanted to show you what I use to use for sim racing.........

10-4. So, will the one your sending fit in a mid tower case or does it need a full size tower? `52`

Mid tower is perfect. Believe it or not in that picture that is a Rosewill Blackhack mid tower. Biggest mid tower I've ever seen. Bummer they dont make them anymore. They are inexpensive and have...at the time.... one of the best airflows for under $50. Rosewill make some nice inexpensive cases still, on Newegg of course. My main store for builds.

Kewl!! So what do you think about my other suggestions?? 600w ps (brand unknown) and Cooler Master 212 EVO? Remember, Im not gonna overclock.. My GTX1050Ti is one of the compact EVGA models and the Mid Tower case Im looking at comes with 3 120mm fans.

That will definitely get you there for sure. Corsair is the way to go on power supply if you are still looking, and with the air cool there won't be such a demand on the power supply from water cooling. You should be able to run that for a very long time. And if you upgrade again later, you'll have a good power supply and a kick ass CPU cooler for the next round. Well played Mick!

For myself, next step is bigger radiator for CPU. Then 850w platinum PSU... Finally a GTX 1080 ti hybrid. I still don't believe in the RTX series yet. 1080 ti is just as good if not better (without ray tracing) GPU than anything for $600. Friggin RTX that's close to the 1080 ti is $1300+

Ugh.. Sooo, parts ordered! Hot Lapper Build incoming within the next week or so.. BUT! I've got 2 HDD's that I need to use with this new system.. Currently running Windows 7.. One has the OS and basic apps, the other has ALL my games.. Looks like Im facing a format and reinstall of the OS HDD at the very least, which isn't so bad.. But what about the other gaming HDD?? Do I need to reformat that too and reinstall all my games or will it know what's up when I switch it over?? Inquiring minds want to know! Might take this opportunity to go ahead and go with Win 10 as well... Decisions decisions..

DO NOT REFORMAT YET! You may be able to run w7 as is since Windows does not support it any longer. If you think The Mothership (Microsoft) will be an issue do it after you know everything is running. It will be a non licensed version, just be sure you have a hard copy of w7. Unless I'm totally missing something.
And yes..... I had some issues with my Steam programs running smoothly after I built my PC up, so I had a lot of file allocation work.

You are on the right track for no issues for fresh format install, but you may get lucky like I did on my very first build. All I had to do was buy a liscence from The Mothership and that was it. I run 3 hard drives. SSD for OS, HDD for games and a few things, and a 3tb ext with all my photo stuff and video stuff on it. My 3tb is starting to get full so looking at a docking station and having multiple ssd for photos and movies.

Only concern about not reformatting the OS HDD is it's got all my drivers and stuff from this old i4 Dell Optiplex and if it tries to boot with the old drivers I don't know if it'll play nice with the new CPU/Mobo..

Hope things are going well for you with the build, I put a couple goodies inside the box too.....fan splitter as there are not a lot of 4pin fan locations on rhe mobo and a hd cable. It's not much but thought it couldn't hurt. I'll be getting my new RAD for the CPU, the 480mm wont fit. But got lucky and a 240mm Rad was on a killer sale. I had to pull the trigger. $90 240mm rad for $39 is a no brainer in my book....and its a Cooler Master AIO.

Dude! Box has a false bottom!! I'd printed off about 20 pages from the online manual, then I see this and find the manual, those other goodies, the whole 9 yards!! `17` I guess I'll get it built eventually.. 1st PSU I ordered the guy says (3 days later) that the package was "either" damaged or lost in the mail.. `35`So I ordered a different one.. 4 days later, I ask when I should get the shipping info and they write back they're "waiting for payment".. `2` I check Paypal and it says "Pending, seller hasn't yet accepted payment" `23`So now I wait..

Thanks again and good luck with your build DK!! :happyblush (Oh, and for some reason, Im -not- getting "notifications" when someone replies to this thread??) `29`

Wait... What? You did not get your shipment from me, and or damaged?! And If not....I will send you your money back in the morning. I am lost here, is it me you are worried about, or upset about? I'm at a loss if My package I sent to you is messed up from shipment, I will pay you in the morning. I'm confused by this statement.

Huh? No, the mobo and all the goodies you sent are fine. lol I just realized that the box had stuff hiding in the bottom..

It's the power supply (PSU) I ordered that's holding me up.

OK, I reread a few times after some caffeine, I'm on the same page. Sorry I thought, I mentioned the goodies I sent with it. Hope the PSU gets resolved soon.
