So this is just a spitball idea that came to me the other day. With my job I don't really have the time or energy to get into online or even offline leagues so I figured I'd post it and if someone wants to do it they can run with it. Because of my lack of experience with leagues this also may have already been done before, so if it has, feel free to ignore it (or remove it, as necessary).

Anyway my idea is this: have a special race where each league entry would promote a charity of their choice. There can be an entry fee, entry donation, or fundraiser (this is the part that is a little sticky, as having money involved creates issues, but is kind of necessary for the main point of the idea). The winner of the race will have the money go to the charity that they are supporting during the race.

The teams could have special paint schemes that reflect the charity of their choice, if they so desire, either as the entire scheme, in conjunction with their normal "sponsor," or none at all.

The biggest issue of coarse would be the money. There could be some legal implications (maybe) of this, especially for bigger leagues that may be seen more as a 'organisation' than as a few guys playing a game together. There is also the risk that a league admin will just take the money and say they donated it to charity. But I think it can still be possible to have a good result from it.

Anyway that is my idea. I don't care about any sort of rights or credit if someone decides to do this, I just thought I might as well not keep it to myself and put it out there for someone to use or if someone wanted to add to the discussion.

Charity races have been around almost as long as on-line racing has been going on. Money is actually not the problem, the problem is finding someone who has to commit a ton of time to do everything that's involved, from organizing sponsors to the race itself. I can tell you from personal experience you don't want to be involved with anything like this.

If you truly want to race on-line there are plenty of leagues still out there who don't mind if you don't run every race, I'd check into those. http://www.hoboracing.com/ is a good place to check out, the run several series a week. Also, if Wednesday night works for you http://www.deltasimracing.com/ is a good place to run, a few members here run there including myself @Highbank and @garrett1127 .

That makes sense, I was thinking more along the lines of just adding up simple donations from the drivers or whoever wanted to donate, rather than trying to go for a large sum through sponsors and whatnot, as much for funzies as trying to put together some kind of donation. But I could see people wanted to make it worth the effort and try and get a bigger event organized.

I knew of those leagues, DeltaSim being a good go to league and Hobo Racing being a good starter league. I've done some before but the problem is I spend every other week on call, so not only would I not be able to run every race but there is a decent chance I would have to just leave right in the middle of one as well. The weeks I am not on call I am usually trying to do things with the wife to make up for the week before of not being able to do anything, so it is a little tough to even have solo races for fun (or paint for that matter) let alone get involved with a league. Thanks for the help though!
