I know no one asked for this, but here it is.
I am a Matt Kenseth fan, so I was really excited when he came back to drive the 42 car. Many people would say that his return has been a let down. I would argue that Matt can still be competitive in the cup series given enough time. Some factors that led to the let down was people were expecting him to be in championship form. Matt was thrown into a car after not being in one since 2018, so he was unfamiliar with the package. This year has had no practice which is true for all drivers, but I think it hurts kenseth the most. Matt had no relationship with his crew chief or crew, which might not seem like a big deal to the average person, but it is.
Matt Kenseth started off the season with a top 10, but the following races were rough. As the season has gone on, he has improved his average finishing position.
in the last 6 races (even though he crashed out at Daytona, he was still running well) Matt Kenseth's average finishing position has been about a 17.5, which is almost just as good as teammate Kurt Busch, granted Kurt has had some bad luck recently. this finishing position over the last 6 races is 1 spot better than Tyler Reddick, 3 more than Newman, Jimmie, Mcdowell, and Ty Dillon, and 6 more than Bubba. side note that is better than all the rookies except Jones.
I think that if Matt Kenseth were to race in 2021, which seems unlikely, he could be a relevant contender every week and could maybe steal a win.

I think you would be correct... it would have to be a steal a win.
