Unfortunately pretty much all the mods don't fit quite right with reality. I have experience problems with Cup90 working on my 1989 car, and even with BR15Gen6 despite it being a favorite. It just doesn't line up with some of the ARCA cars I have worked on.

in fairness, i think the cup98 was Cosmin's first attempt at mod making but as someone who was a part of the painting crew, yeah they were a pain to paint on lol

the contigs were my biggest struggle but even with all of its flaws, it's still one of my favorite mods
Yeah definitely was one of the earlier mods for him and those guys did a great job overall. They most definitely improved as they went along.

With the exception of the #75 camo scheme - this may be most technically complex paint scheme I've ever put together for this game. And I am ridiculously happy with how it turned out!

Like just about every NASCAR from this time period - they used a lot of unique images that didn't really exist anywhere else in promotional materials for this movie. Is it all 100% accurate? Of course not - but I feel that this is the best visually cohesive job I could have done. Rex and Hamm on the hood are actually pieced together from different head and body images to get the expressions and angles the way I wanted them. I penciled in Hamm's raised eyebrow as the head I used had both eyebrows in a scowl. LOTS of color correction/ hue/ saturation to get the various parts to match each other. And don't even talk to me about getting Hamm's butt and legs to match up around the body curve near the passenger side headlight..... UGH.

RCs grill (face?), eyes and shock towers were made from scratch based on the race images. As stated earlier - 'BUZZ THRU', the #94 font and the unique McD logo were scratch built as well. Used the same image of Buzz from the #44 Toy Story car. The Green Army Men on the rear were from two completely different sources (one promo image and one from a movie screencap) and needed some serious love and attention to make them appear to belong together, hah.

Was just itching to share this and the render that Tom did for me - enjoy the taste for now! I'll have this posted once the crew layer is complete.

Aaaaaaaand off to the print shop this goes! I've designed bits and pieces of decal sets for model cars I've done before - but this is my first *100%* my own creation from start to finish. Full 300dpi, laser printed waterslide decals.

I started with the simple of idea of using the camo pattern wrap I made for the 1999 carset on a physical model car and went nuts from there. Had to figure out what size and shape to make the bits of the camo by wrapping painters tape around the 1/24 scale Taurus body, cutting it off and laying those bits flat. Had to make sure there was an acceptable overlap of the pieces so the car body below didn't show through. I was originally going to use the Slixx decal set that was made for the regular season paint scheme...... but I kept noticing little things I'd have to change. Like the hood logo being green on the regular scheme vs this white logo. Like how the Polaris logos on the rear quarters and deck lid needed to be neon instead of white.... etc. In the end I just said screw it and put together my own sheet. The Hunter Orange bits were the final piece. The decal printer I am going with can do fluorescent colors - but they are translucent and not an exact science, so I'll be using two colors (a neon red and a neon orange) and layering them on the body to get the correct final color. Hence the 3 separate sheets for this, the camo wrap, the white underlay on the stripes and various decals, and the neon colored overlays.

This is going to be epic when complete and I can't wait to have these in -hand in a week!

I knew you had your Revell paint/glue Gordon cars/project, wasn't sure if you took it the other level... not another level, cuss that's the full decals, lol.

IIRC Revell was out by the COT cars, but was back for Gen 6. But I'm sure there are companies that made resin bodies for the COT. At least lower nose pieces to update a COT diecast to '11+ spec etc

Yeah, I've been building plastic models since the early 90s when my uncle got me hooked on his habit, hah. I built nothing between like 2006 and 2018 (coincidentally the same period of time that the rest of hobbies fell by the wayside...) but now that I'm back into it I've made myself a list of schemes I loved that I want to put on my shelf - some of which never had decals made - or those decals are looooong out of production.

The Gordon Superman car was a joint venture with me doing Superman and Sam (3AmigosDecals) plotting the rest of the numbers, logos, etc.

After that I made it a step further with the chroma Dick Trickle car from 1998 - I made the numbers and logos (and had Sam print them) and then used pre-cut red stripes and Slixx contingency decals to complete it.

I've completed a bunch of other models so far this year using original 'vintage' decals (which I guess I'll have to post pics of!) But this is going to be the first one where every single bit of this complicated decal set is my own.

1998 Dick Trickle - Heilig Meyers 'chroma' run at one of the short tracks that year. Krylon 'Beach Glass' teal paint, GreenStuffWorld color shift (purple to teal), generic waterslide stripes, Slixx contigs and headlight decals, short track grills and other decals plotted by me.
