Hey guys, I need a little help figuring this out. I downloaded and installed the Stunod 2020 Daytona carset. I ran a race at a modified Atlanta track. Behind a full field of cars, the game stuttered drastically (FPS drop) through the front stretch. It was undrivable.
So I went back and ran my 2019 carset at the exact same track with all settings the same. It ran great, no FPS drop. I opened the cars folder and compared kb sizes of each car file (2019 vs 2020) and they are all very close in size.
I took it a step further and tried the same track with the MENCS 2018 mod and it ran great...again, compared car file sizes and they were very close.
I can't figure out why this carset seems to cause such a big FPS hit.
System:
AMD Athlon X4 860k cpu (quad core)
8 gb RAM
Windows 10 64 bit
Also running 4gb patch

Thanks

Well, after doing some research, I checked my tracks "shared" folder and it was full of all kinds of junk!! Cleaned it out and all good! Sim runs smooth as silk now!
Thanks for all that you guys do!
God Bless

So how do you know what is junk and what isn't, I'm sure other people might like to know.
I looked at each file (other than the basic "shared.dat" file) and they were mostly 2010-2011 mip updates that I didn't really want anyway, so I deleted everything and left just the default "shared.dat" file that came with the sim. Infield and grandstand graphics don't interest me much. Plus I'm a little old school, 90's era NASCAR, so the old logos and such are a bit of nostalgia with the new cars.

....and for anyone who doesn't know, some (if not all) of the infield and trackside graphics (mips) are in the tracks/shared folder. If you've never downloaded and installed any updated "shared" folders or mips, then you would most likely see just the "shared.dat" file in this folder. Which would need to be unpacked with Winmip, to see the individual mip files.
Clear as mud?

Here come the "Why won't my tracks load" threads.
Just keep in mind by removing some of this stuff you might run into tracks that require some of those things to exist. It also seems more coincidental to me that it worked after removing those files. If they were causing issues they should cause issues for all carsets. My guess is either your system was in a funk or there is a problematic car in that set pushing your system over it's limit. Just a guess.

This is very true! Thank You for posting that. It does depend a lot on what tracks you're using. BE CAREFUL and KNOW what you are deleting before doing so. It seemed to help my glitch but it may not have been the actual problem. Thanks Rufio2031

I did check out the carset myself and it did look fine to me. I didn't have any issues myself.
Hard to say, and you may be right that something was conflicting on your system, just from what I understand it seems weird. Then again technology is known to not make any sense sometimes.
