Edwards had no desire to race anymore when asked to fill in.... Only now he said he would like to do a one race at Road America or one of the road courses coming up..i think there was some of that as well, but if he had had a more successful season I think he would have come back, cause his contract was for 2 years. all in all i'm going to miss him
heres an idea, a retired car where people like greg biffle, carl edwards, matt k, dale jr, jimmie, gordon, etc. all race one or 2 races

You almost got it all correct... A Driver can run for only one title, either Cup, Xfinity or Truck. As for Denny being locked in, well he is high enough in points that he can't be knocked out, there are only 2 races left till the playoffs, so only 2 new non-race winners outside the top 16 can get in.First of all, an unchartered team can totally be part of the playoffs, should they (and especially the driver) attempt to qualify for all 36 races in the season, win a race, and finish within the top 30 in points. AJ doesn't qualify because he's a part-time driver and doesn't earn points in Cup due to his full-time Xfinity Series effort, and therefore would never be within the top 30.
Second, I'm 90% sure that there's a provision that states that the Regular Season champion qualifies for the Playoffs, which hasn't been needed as the regular season champ is usually a race winner.
Third, even if that wasn't the case, the drivers that could knock Denny out of a Playoff berth prior to them starting would more than likely be knocked out of contention after the first round, unless some fuckery happened that caused a arguably more "deserving" driver to be eliminated early.

Just because I didn't say it exactly, doesn't mean I was incorrectAJ..... doesn't earn points in Cup due to his full-time Xfinity Series effort
yea its crazyDid anyone see this coming?
Hendrick - all 4 in.
Joe Gibbs - all 4 in.
Penske - all 3 in.
...and Harvick.
This is what makes Harvick's wee tanty at Bristol seem so odd. He should expect that Elliot was going to run screen for Larson.
