There are many stories within the world of the auto industry, some happy, some sad, some mysterious. The story of Preston Tucker and his company is possibly one of the most tragic and interesting. The vehicle he designed was ahead of its time. In the end, only 51 vehicles would be made by the company before it was forced to shut down, after numerous negative publicity. According to some, the blame for all of this rests on the bigger three auto makers (GM, Ford, and Chrysler). In the end, we perhaps will never know.
There is record of one Tucker starting a NASCAR race in 1950, but it dropped out with a mechanical failure before the race started. That vehicle is one of the few Tuckers to not survive.
