Sam Mayer qualified 23rd for the race, but quickly started gaining positions as the race went on. He remained in the Top 10 for the majority of the race and grabbed some important stage points. Unfortunately, he once again was unable to get a good finish. Mayer was involved in the backstretch pileup with 57 laps to go, and was forced to retire. He was scored 34th.
