**It would seem that, upon further review of the new higher-quality footage uploaded to NASCAR Classics, the previously noted missing chunks of the laser blast around the back of this car was actually due to this car sporting the Y2k Pontiac taillights that would not become mandatory until Daytona the following February. The #44 seems to be the ONLY Pontiac in the field that day to have these additional decals - even the #43 clearly did not have them! But close inspection of the broadcast images where the rear of this car can be seen point to this being the most likely conclusion.
