nr2003 recently started crashing on "drive"

alright so here's my situation. i've been using nr2003 for a couple of years and just until yesterday it kept crashing on drive. i've tried disabling DEP, enabling directplay, and running it on compatibility mode XPS2. it wouldn't give the traditional "nascar racing 2003 season has stopped working" message; the game would go to static like you were just about to drive, freeze, then crash.
my specs are:
3.50 hz intel i5-6600k (64bit)
16 gb ram
1 tb hdd
evga geforce 1050ti 6gb
windows 10 (64bit)

so yeah any help would be much appreciated
