Well we've eaten all the turkey, jingled all bells, rung in the new year and it's now time to waive the green flag on the 2024 Stunod Racing NASCAR Pick'em Series season!

For those of you who have never played before, and for all you returning players, here's a refresher on how this all works. Please read ALL the way through. Anything new for 2024 will be indicated in BOLD.

WEEKLY SCORING
Each week you select who you think will be top five finishers in that weekend's NASCAR Cup Series race. You will also have the chance to submit picks for the pole sitter of the Cup Series race as well as the winner of that weekend's Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series events, depending on what's scheduled for that particular weekend.

You will earn points based on where the drivers you select as your top 5 actually finish in each race.

If you correctly pick the Cup Series race's pole sitter, you will earn 4 points. Correctly picking the winner of the Craftsman Truck Series and Xfinity Series races earns you 10 points each.

If any of your top 5 picks finish 1st-10th in Stage 1 or Stage 2 of a Cup Series race, their earned stage points will be added to your total just as they are added to the driver's point total for that race.

If any of your top 5 picks finish in the actual top 5, you will earn an extra 1 point for each. If any of your top 5 picks finish exactly where you picked, you will earn an extra 6 points for each. Correctly picking the winner of a Cup Series race earns you 9 extra points.

The player with the highest score in each race will be declared that race's winner. Wins count toward playoff eligibility just like in the Cup Series. (More on how the playoffs work below.)

Pick'em players who finish in the top 10 will be awarded bonus points. The player with the highest score will earn 10 bonus points. The amount then decreases by increments of 1 for each subsequent positions, down to 1 point for 10th place. These points will be included in your overall score and can be carried forward into the playoffs. Bonus points are not subject to the best 18 race rule (more on that below).

Here's a sample weekly pick:

These are jgegner's Pocono Race 1 picks from 2010...adjusted for the new for 2017 system (***Note: Stage finishing positions below are meant as example only. No stage finishing records were kept before so nobody really knows what would have been the finishing outcomes of each stage.)

Truck Winner: Ron Hornaday (NO GOOD...possible +7)

Nationwide: Brad Keselowski (GOOD...+7)

Cup Pole: Ryan Newman (NO GOOD...possible +4)

1st: Jimmie Johnson (Finished 1st in Stage 1...+10, Finished 8th in Stage 2...+3, Finished 5th overall...+36...+1 point for putting him in the top 5)
2nd: Kurt Busch (Finished 12th in Stage 1...+0, Finished 9th in Stage 2...+2, Finished 6th overall...+35)
3rd: Denny Hamlin (Finished 5th in Stage 1...+5, Finished 2nd in Stage 2...+9, Finished 1st overall...+40...+1 point for putting him in the top 5)
4th: Kevin Harvick (Finished 2nd in Stage 1...+9, Finished 10th in Stage 2...+1, Finished 4th overall ...+37...+1 point for putting him in the top 5...+6 points for picking him in his correct finishing position)
5th: Tony Stewart (Finished 18th in Stage 1...+0, Finished 12th in Stage 2...+0, Finished 3rd overall...+38 points)

TOTAL: 241

TIEBREAKERS
Tiebreakers will only apply to those who have tied for a race win. Bonus points and playoff points will be awarded to all players for the position they tied for. For example, if three players tied for 2nd, all three would earn 9 bonus points and 1 playoff point each.

The first tiebreaker will be points from each player's top 5 picks only, excluding points earned from Cup Pole or supporting race winner picks. The player with the higher amount of points from their top 5 picks will be declared the winner.

The second tiebreaker will be how close each player's top 5 picks were to their respective finishing position. For example, if your pick for 1st place finished in 3rd place, that pick was 2 places off. The player whose picks were closest to their actual finishing positions will be declared the winner.

The third tiebreaker will be when valid top 5 picks were submitted. If there is still a tie after the first two tiebreakers, whoever submitted their picks first will be declared the winner. Consider this an incentive to make your picks early!

A fourth tiebreaker has never been needed. If somehow there is still a tie after the first three tiebreakers, including all those involved in the tie miraculously submitting their picks at the exact same minute, the tie will be resolved at the discretion of the Stunod Pick'em Series Commissioner. Do NOT try to "break the game" by intentionally causing this to happen. The Stunod Racing Pick'em Series Commissioner has the right to remove any player for any reason at his discretion.

PLAYOFF POINTS
The Pick'em winner each week will earn 5 playoff points. 2nd and 3rd place finishers will also receive 1 playoff point each. These points accumulate all season and can be carried forward into the playoffs.

In case of a tie for 1st, all players involved in the tie will receive 5 playoff points. However, only the declared winner will have earned a win for playoff purposes. In the case of a tie for 2nd or 3rd, all players involved in the tie will receive 1 playoff point.

The points leader at the end of the 26 race regular season will earn 15 playoff points. 2nd place earns 10, 3rd place 8, 4th place 7, 5th place 6, decreasing by 1 point per position through 10th place.

Those who make the playoffs will carry their playoff points with them into each round of the playoffs (more on that below). Players who do not make the playoffs will have their playoff points cancelled.

BEST 18 RULE
Each player's overall point total will be based on their best 18 of 26 races. Once a player amasses 18 starts, their lowest score could be replaced by their score for races 19-26, if their score is higher than their lowest score. Lowest scores are posted for each player with 18 or more starts each week. A player's point total will only increase by how many points their race score was higher than their lowest score. Players who enter every race will be able to drop up to 8 of their worst scores of the season. Consider this an incentive to enter each week!

Example: You've entered every week. Your point total is 2000 points going into Race 19. Your lowest score going in was 80 at Talladega. Your score in race 19 turned out to be 150 points. Your 80 point Talladega score is then replaced by your 150 point Race 19 score. Your cumulative point total rises by the 70 point gain. Your point total after race 19 is 2070 points.

PLAYOFFS
The playoffs will be made up of 16 players who qualify based on relevant criteria described below. Players outside of the playoffs will have the Best 18 Rule extended for the remainder of the year. Their best 18 of 36 races will count towards their overall point total. They will compete for 17th place in points. 17th in the overall standings is the highest any player who did not make the playoffs can ultimately finish in the overall standings.

Playoff Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the playoffs, each player must enter a MINIMUM of 18 races, and be 40th or better in the regular season standings after race 26.
Assuming BOTH conditions are met, the regular season champion plus the top 15 with the most wins in the first 26 races will earn a spot in the Stunod Pick'em Series Playoffs.
Ties in amount of wins will be broken by playoff points. Ties in wins and playoff points will be broken by bonus points. Ties in wins, playoff points, and bonus points will be broken by total regular season points. Ties in wins, playoff points, bonus points, and regular season points will be broken by number of races entered. Further tiebreakers will be determined at the discretion of the Stunod Pick'em Series Commissioner.

If there are fewer than 16 playoff eligible race winners, playoff positions will be awarded to those who are highest in overall regular season points. Any tiebreakers will follow the above mentioned structure.

If there are more than 16 playoff eligible race winners, playoff positions will be awarded to those with the most wins, and then the most regular season points. Any tiebreakers will follow the above mentioned structure.

Transition from Regular Season to Playoffs
The overall points standings will be reset according to the following:
- Those in the playoffs will be set at 7000 points plus playoff points, bonus points, weekly average, and buffer points. Buffer points are total regular season bonus points divided by total races entered, multiplied by the number of entries short of 26.
- Those not in the playoffs will be moved into the "Championship Ineligible" group beginning with 17th place in the overall standings. No points will be reset. Playoff points will be cancelled. Players will continue to score points for each race following the Best 18 Rule. No playoff points will be awarded to those in the Championship Ineligible group should they finish in the top 3 of a race.

Round of 16
- Automatic advancement to the Round of 12 will be awarded to anyone in the top 16 who wins a Round of 16 race, regardless of their position in the overall standings.
- Those 12th and higher in the overall standings, less any race winners, will advance to the Round of 12.
- Tiebreakers will be playoff points, bonus points, and weekly average in that order. Any further tiebreaker will be at the discretion of the Stunod Pick'em Commissioner.
- The 12 who advance will have their points reset to 8,000 plus playoff points, bonus points, weekly average, and buffer points.
- Those in the playoffs who do not advance to the Round of 12 will be moved into the "Eliminated From Contention" group.
- Those moved into the "Eliminated From Contention" group will continue to score points for the remainder of the playoffs but will not be further reset. Their overall point total will eventually consist of the initial playoff reset plus all points earned in playoff races.

Round of 12
- Automatic advancement to the Round of 8 will be awarded to anyone in the top 12 who wins a Round of 12 race, regardless of their position in the overall standings.
- Those 8th and higher in the overall standings, less any race winners, will advance to the Round of 8.
- Tiebreakers will be playoff points, bonus points, and weekly average in that order. Any further tiebreaker will be at the discretion of the Stunod Pick'em Series Commissioner.
- The 8 who advance will have their points reset to 9,000 plus playoff points, bonus points, weekly average, and buffer points.
- Those in the playoffs who do not advance to the Round of 8 will be moved into the "Eliminated From Contention" group.
- Those moved into the "Eliminated From Contention" group at this point will have their scores reset to the initial playoff reset plus their scores from playoff races. Their overall point total will eventually consist of their regular season point total plus all points earned in playoff races.

Round of 8
- Automatic advancement to the Championship 4 will be awarded to anyone in the top 8 who wins a Round of 8 race, regardless of their position in the overall standings.
- Those 4th and higher in the overall standings, less any race winners, will advance to the Championship 4.
- Tiebreakers will be playoff points, bonus points, and weekly average in that order. Any further tiebreaker will be at the discretion of the Stunod Pick'em Series Commissioner.
- The 4 who advance will have their points reset to 10,000 points. NO playoff points, bonus points, weekly average, or buffer points will be included.
- Those in the playoffs who do not advance to the Championship 4 will be moved into the "Eliminated From Contention" group.
- Those moved into the "Eliminated From Contention" group at this point will have their scores reset to the initial playoff reset plus their scores from playoff races. Their overall point total will eventually consist of their regular season point total plus all points earned in playoff races.

Championship Four
- The highest finisher of the Championship 4 will be declared the Stunod Pick'em Series Champion.
- 2nd-4th of the remaining championship eligible players will finish 2nd-4th in the final Stunod Pick'em standings.
- 5th-16th in the overall standings will be made up of the "Eliminated from Contention" group.
- Tiebreaker for the championship will be determined by the same tiebreaker process used to determine the winner of any given race.
- Tiebreakers for 3rd place and lower will be playoff points, bonus points, and weekly average in that order. Any further tiebreaker will be at the discretion of the Stunod Pick'em Series Commissioner.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD
- Anyone who has not entered more than 10 races in any previous Stunod Racing NASCAR Pick'em Series season will be considered eligible for the Rookie of the Year Award.
- Entry into the ROTY standings is automatic upon valid submission of picks for any race. No additional or separate picks are required for entry.
- A player's score in any race also earns points towards the Rookie of the Year award on a 1:1 basis.
- Scores in the Rookie of the Year standings will follow the Best 18 Rule.
- The Rookie of the Year standings will NOT be adjusted in any way relative to the playoffs. Rookie of the Year award competition includes all 26 regular season races plus the 10 playoff races.
- Playoff points will serve as a tiebreaker if needed. Further tiebreakers will be at the discretion of the Stunod Pick'em Series Commissioner.
- The rookie who scores the most points at the end of the season will be crowned that year's Stunod Racing NASCAR Pick'em Series Rookie of the Year.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When do your picks need to be submitted by each week?

All picks must be submitted BEFORE the green flag waives for each event. While this does mean you can make picks for each event at different times, each event's picks must be submitted by the start of each event. (i.e. A Saturday Xfinity Winner pick cannot be submitted on the following Sunday even if the Cup race has not yet begun.)

What happens if there's a rain delay?

In the event of a rain delay BEFORE an event has started, picks for that event can be submitted up until that event actually begins. Any postponement of any event also extends the time players have to submit picks for that event.
In the event of a rain delay AFTER an event has started, picks were locked at the start of the event. No picks can be altered. No additional picks can be submitted.

What happens if one of my top 5 picks fails post-race inspection and has their finishing position DQ'd?

Sorry but since these penalties are assessed 1-2 hours after completion of a race, they will become part of the standings that all Pick'em scores are based on. If you correctly picked the race winner, but then he was DQ'd for inspection failure and receives last place points, you will receive last place points for that pick.

What if I make separate posts for my Cup Pole pick, my Truck and Xfinity Winner picks, and my top 5 picks?

Congrats you've made the weekly race thread more beefy. Doing this may increase the chance of an error in your scoring. Therefore while this is acceptable, it is not recommended.

Why does the Best 18 Rule exist? Shouldn't my scores for all 26 regular season races be included in my overall point total?

We try to be as fair as possible here at the Stunod Pick'em Series. We don't want only the players who entered the Daytona 500 to be eligible for the overall championship. New players are encouraged to join us each race. We want those new players to think they can still win the championship at year's end. Over the past decade or so, having the players' overall scores be made up of their best 18 races has done well to balance both past player loyalty and new player hope. We do, however, require that at least 18 starts be made before a player can be eligible for the playoffs. This ensures a fair assessment of the field in order to determine who advances to the playoffs and competes for the championship.

How is this game worth my time if no prizes are awarded?

Ask anyone who has participated. They'll tell you how much fun it is to play. There's pride, competition, and the fun of watching how your picks do in each race. We may not have tangible prizes but our players are still VERY competitive. To honor their efforts, we do NOT tolerate anyone who tries "breaking the game" in any way. This game is meant for fun and enjoyment. If you are not here for fun and enjoyment, feel free to play some other site's game.

Do you have plans to move the game off of an internet message board and onto a social media platform of some kind?

It is conceivable to have this game also played in a private Facebook group. While the Stunod Racing forum will always be the central hub for Pick'em, if the interest to expand is there, that will be taken under advisement. Currently we have not made any arrangements for this game to be played anywhere outside the Stunod Racing forums. Stay tuned as this may change in the future.

Any additional questions may be asked in this thread or on a PM to me.

Always remember above all else, HAVE FUN!!
