A look at my newest fictional paint scheme, going back to the 2002 Busch Series... Got this idea a couple months ago when I was watching 2002 ESPN2 commercials and thought... Why hasn't Dollar Rent A Car ever been around NASCAR? I think they could have an excellent paint scheme. Now I bring that idea to (somewhat of a) reality. It will be ready for download probably by the time you're reading this.

UPDATE: I ended up finding the Apple base I thought I lost a couple months ago (this base is not final). Time to get the last couple cars of this set done. I have this, the Motel 6 and Mac Tools cars, and all of the boxes to paint, then compiling the car files and bases and screenshots for the download, and if best case scenario, the 1990 fictionals mini-set should be out by sometime next week.

The #55 Apple Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Tom Freckley for self owned Tom Freckley Motorsports.

Rookie Season: 1975
Accolades: 4x Daytona 500 winner, 2x Coca-Cola 600 Winner

Credit to the following people for contributing these ideas on my Reddit thread I posted a couple months ago asking for sponsor help:

Ratbu: Apple (primary)
Rocko3Legs: Mac Tools
Primary_Currency5902: Motel 6
JHawley23: Camel
LMRacingGuru02: Coca-Cola

You'll see these sponsors on the other two TFM cars that are going to be the last cars painted for this expansion.

Contigs made by CC48 on RacinGrafix, I'm happy they were preserved on this website in July last year. I will be adding them to all of the cars I have painted for this set so far.

The #62 Mac Tools Chevrolet, driven by Randall Lewis, for Tom Freckley Motorsports.

Rookie Year: 1973

(also yes, I know there's no yellow accents in the Mac Tools logo but I threw in some yellow on the base anyway because it really pops.)

Now to paint pitboxes, organize the bases, make car files, get screenshots, and get the set ready to be posted on here. Should be out by sometime today.

I started watching Trans Am racing yesterday (Race 1 at Sebring), and I think I'm inspired to make a fictional part time 2024 Cup Series ride for Tomy Drissi. He would pilot the #08 RCR car sponsored by Lucas, directly inspired by the paint he ran in that race, as it seems easy enough for me to make (I'm not the best with recreating paints which is why I prefer making my own). I'll get to painting it in a few minutes, and there's a likely chance it'll go up for download today. Right now I'm debating between using the 2019-2022 numberset, or the Kyle Busch numberset, it's hard to pick though.

(1 wheelspin later...)

2019 set it is.

Off to the drawing board I go. Will give progress reports as I make the scheme! :)

Here is the finished base. There were a couple things I couldn't 100% wrap my head around so for some parts such as the red on the hood/sides, I took a little creative liberty. But regardless I'm happy with how it looks. Now to do sponsors.

Oops. I just realized I've been spelling his last name wrong this entire time (you can see I spelt his last name Drizzi in the screenshots). Don't worry, it's already been remedied along with the other additions.

Last week, I ran a poll on the NR2003 subreddit, asking the community whether they want to see an expansion set for 2003 Winston Cup, or 2004 Busch. Winston Cup won out by 3 votes, so that's going to be my next long-term project. I have 7 drivers set up, some you'll recognize, others will definitely be new to you. I'll work on ol' Scotty W's car first. Off to work I go.

1 down, 6 to go.

First up, the #08 Intel Inside/HP Ford Taurus, driven by Scott Waywood for Dave Markson Racing. They rebranded to the #08 in 2001 after Evernham Motorsports took the #19.

Rookie Season: 1987
Accolades: 1x Daytona 500 Winner (1997), 3x Coca Cola 600 Winner (1991, 1993, 1997), 1997 Winston Cup Series Champion

By far this is one of the best cars I've painted yet, I'm really proud of the base.

I will say this. You might see Mark Waywood appear in this project eventually. Might actually paint his car when I pick this project back up. There will also be a couple other Fords in this set as I love the early/mid 2000's Taurus.

3 cars done. I just need some help identifying a B-pillar logo on Dale Jarrett's car, see here for more details. Besides that, I'm satisfied.

The #28 Coca-Cola Ford Taurus, driven by Robert DePriest for Robert Yates Racing.

Rookie Year: 1998
Accolades: 1 win, in his rookie season, at Sears Point

Missing B-pillar logo has been identified as The Club, thanks to a couple people who commented on the linked post. I am grateful.

Not related at all to my 2003 set, and I typically don't paint CWS2015 stuff.. but I got a kick to do a few 2023 Craftsman Truck races, so of course I had to make at least 1 fictional for it.

The #18 Monster Energy Toyota, driven by Connor Nobascky for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Rookie Year: 2021
Accolades: None as of yet, but he did lead the most laps in the Texas race I did, which was won by Christian Eckes. Nobascky placed 9th.

This is kind of like... what if JGR opened a new truck program after Kyle Busch Motorsports went to Chevy in 2023? I like asking myself what if questions like this, and it's interesting to imagine the possibilities and bring them into virtual life. I was just going to do just a basic black like on the actual car but I felt like this needed some green accents of different shades to compliment the sponsor.

If you guys want me to post this truck and its base for download, please don't hesitate to say so!

4 cars are done now. 3 to go.

The #36 Wal-Mart Chevrolet, driven by Chad Gontesley for Flat Out Racing.

Rookie Year: 2000
Accolades: None, as of yet.

At first I had a different idea for the base, the first 3 photos are the original version, but I didn't like the side design. I revised it to give the Wal-Mart logo some more space as seen in the latter 3 photos, and it definitely looks better.

The 2003 Winston Cup fictional set is being put on the back burner for now due to lack of motivation and other things. I will come back to it eventually.

However, CC48's 2048 PWF CTS templates came out yesterday so I think it's time to have some fun with those, trucks have always been a joy for me to paint. I may put together a 2001 fictional set, but there'll only be 3-4 trucks.

With that being said, here is the first of them, it is Blake Hudson, who you will recognize from the 2002 Busch Series set.

He drove the Home Depot Chevy for Joe Gibbs Racing, he would spend 2 years in their Craftsman Truck program, from 2000 up to 2001. Hudson would score 3 of his 7 career wins with JGR in that tenure, his first coming in the 2000 Sam's Town 400 at Texas, and in the same year he'd win the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at IRP, and finally he'd get his last victory with the team in the 2001 O'Reilly 200 at Memphis.

Rookie Year: 1996
Craftsman Truck Accolades after 2001: 7 wins

I must say, for it being a recreation, I really like how this base turned out, as I don't typically like remaking real schemes. It can be an extreme pain depending on the scheme's complexity.

Truck 2/5 of the 2001 fictional set.

The #22 Polaris Dodge, driven by Tim Trassner for Bill Davis Racing.

I have no lore for Trassner at the moment, as this is a name I recently just came up with for the 2003 set without much thought.

That aside, I'm a huge mark for the Dodge from 1995-2001 because of the front end, and this template I used is my favorite out of the new bunch because of that.

This truck will be posted for download as soon as I can put the car file and both .PSD files in my Mediafire, and get the truck rendered.

Then I'm going to stop there for now.

Love both of those trucks. The 81 reminds me a lot of the few times Gibbs would run their Cup schemes with their Busch Series drivers and you did a great job fitting it on a truck. Also the Polaris truck fits their brand a lot better than the Busch car Ward ran, great job on both!

Thank you! I like seeing how certain paint schemes look on different body types, and this translates pretty well I'd say. And yeah I like how the #22 turned out as well, may be one of my favorites I've painted for the mod.
